DESIGN ELEMENTS

Italus is an Italian all-day café-bar in the center of Athens. The project’s goal was to create the architectural concept and develop the branding of a new high-end store of the food and beverage sector.

One challenging aspect of the existing space was  the long and narrow layout of the venue. The concept was to divide the narrow layout into sections while creating a modern, welcoming space, leading in the small back yard. Those consecutive spaces are the bar area, the private seating area, the communal space and the back yard.

The interior design focuses on Italian finesse, expressed through the application of black and white colours and the usage of delicate materials and shapes. Black marble and fine wood are used as cladding materials, creating interesting shapes that define the character of the store.

The dark anthracite façade with classical architectural details stands out in the street. Metallic dark elements can be found in the interior creating a continuous style.

The double height ceiling of the bar area amplifies the space and in addition with the pending artistic elements creates an astonishing first impression.

The private seating area, in the middle of the store is conceived as a wooden box, with a metal cladding, illuminating the otherwise dark space of the café.

The plants and greenery placed at the back yard, act as an inviting scenery to the passers-by.
